Jakarta Great Sale 2013

The Jakarta Great Sale Festival 2013 will kick off from 1st June to 14th July to offer discounted products in an effort to attract domestic buyers and draw tourists from Asia and the Middle East to malls in the capital.

Offering massive 20% to 70% discounts, Jakarta Great Sale is participated by no less than 74 shopping centers and giant malls all across this sprawling metropolis. Shopaholics and tourists will surely flock to Indonesia’s capital city Jakarta when this annual mega shopping fiesta takes place in conjunction with the 486th Anniversary of Jakarta.

Handaka Santosa, Chairman of Jakarta Great Sale informed that this year, the festival will combine great shopping, with cultural and lifestyle events, making it into one big fiesta. In cooperation with the Indonesian Women Entrepreneurs Association and Regional Crafts Council, the shopping event will highlight Indonesian cuisine and traditional crafts.

“The Jakarta Great Sale Festival is targeted not only to the large domestic market, but also to reach the Asian and Middle East markets. We expect tourists from these countries to be attracted to come to Jakarta especially during the time of the Great Sale to shop, dine and enjoy the many discounts here ,” said Handaka Santosa, as reported by the Jakarta Globe.

Handaka said he was optimistic that campaigns across Asia and the Middle East promoting the Jakarta Great Sale Festival would pay off with a massive influx of buyers. He also told Kompas.com that he wants to show Indonesians that they don’t need to go overseas to find great products at affordable prices.

Meanwhile Sapta Nirwandar, Deputy Minister for Tourism and Creative Economy, said that the Jakarta Great Sale will bring many benefits to the capital. “The event will increase Jakarta’s regional income and increase the number of tourists visiting the capital city,” Sapta said.

The organizers also expect that the Great Sale will strengthen relations among business people in the city, increase mall visitors by 20% and contribute to Jakarta’s revenue. The Jakarta Great Sale 2013 is expected to see a 15% increase in transactions, up from last year’s which reached IDR 10.7 trillion ($175 million).

Basuki said the annual event encourages people to come to the city, spend money and experience all that Jakarta has to offer.

“It’s better if all products are discounted, not only certain brands. With many products at a discounted price, people that come here would remember Jakarta,” Basuki said.
